“LAGHERMON” is the name of the field where we chose to plant our vineyard
Our winery is located on the hills of San Polo d'Enza, in the province of Reggio Emilia, at 300 meters above sea level.
We cultivate our vineyard using organic methods, without the use of synthetic products and preserving biodiversity.
In the Reggio Emilia area, many names, including those of the fields, have ancient origins, often deriving from Latin or Greek, and reflect the history and use of the land. These names can provide valuable insights into the nature of the soil, traditional agricultural activities and the evolution of the landscape.
In the Bolognese dialect, "Laghermon" means "large tear"; in the Reggio Emilia dialect however, "Ghermonia" refers to "Agrimonia" specifically the Agrimonia eupatoria plant.
The term agrimonia comes from the Latin argemonia/argimonia. This, in turn, originates from the Greek "argemon", the name of a poppy species used to treat an eye ailment known as "arghema", due to the properties attributed to the plant for curing eye conditions.
